PAIN MANAGEMENT

Pain management is aimed at reducing the inflammation and pain in the joints, tendons or bursa by injecting medication into the target area guided by an ultrasound. The radiologist utilizes ultrasound guidance to locate the target area precisely. The target area is then cleaned, and a local anesthetic is administered. A fine needle is used to administer the prescribed dosage of medication as per your doctor to the target area. This is a low-risk and effective technique that relieves pain and even promotes healing.

Cortisone

Cortisone, which is a type of corticosteroid is a powerful anti-inflammatory used in pain management injections for fast-acting relief of inflammation in the joints, tendons or bursa. It is known to effectively reduce pain due to inflammation with minimal discomfort.

Preparation: For all spine related procedures such as facet, MBB, RFA, nerve root and epidural examinations: If you are on blood thinners such as Coumadin/Warfarin/Heparin, discontinue them for 3 days prior to your scheduled exam only after consulting with your doctor. All other blood thinner only need to be discontinued for 1 day. Then have a “STAT” INR BLOOD TEST DONE LATE IN THE MORNING ON THE DAY BEFORE YOUR EXAM. We will be able to obtain the results.

The results of your INR will indicate whether it is safe to have the procedure.

  •        Take all other medications as prescribed by your doctor. Bring a list of the medications that you are taking.
  •        Bring a list of medications that you are allergic to.
  •        If applicable, bring any joint medication (e.g. Synvisc, Durolane) that you purchased for this procedure. These products are not supplied by ACMS Ultrasound Ltd.; however, cortisone will be supplied.
